CLACTON CHAMBER OF TRADE & TOURISM
Clacton in Bloom Meeting
held at Stonar Hotel, Clacton
at 8.40pm on Wednesday 13 February 2008

Ann Oxley took the Chair

Ann advised that the new structure had been laid out as in the previous minutes (16 Jan 2008) and it was essential, in order to complete the Clacton in Bloom Portfolio, that the appointed members of the sub-committee should report all and any changes or points of information in their section of the work to her as soon as possible.
She had met Trevor Mills TDC, in the Town Square and discussed possible planting schemes with him. Later she had heard that there was a slight hitch in that the Town Square could not be touched as part of the Town Square remit! However this might change on discussion. We were anxious to add colour not disturb the current green planting.
She had met Maureen Goodwin that afternoon and she presented a report on their suggested planting for the Town Square, Pier Avenue, Edinburgh Wool, Costa Coffee and Station Road areas.
Other possibilities were: to add something to the top of the tree barriers; baskets on top of barriers. Harry Shearing had said there may be some money for the big planters.
Maureen said that we should change the judges route, finishing at the Town Square.
Alan Dyer asked if he could be given contacts for other allotment groups so that he could contact and expand the activity. Ann would ask Trevor Mills if he had contacts of Council and private groups.
Maureen had spoken to Assistant Head Mr Hann at Holland Park School and they were willing to take part in CIB 2008. Details as per separate report.
Sandra would soon speak with Shorefields School and report.
Mark Tye the Manager for Clacton Station will advise what they can do to clean up the station area.
? consider borrowing barrow/cart from Silvertons
The basic application for CIB would be submitted (with £70 fee) by end of March.
Ron would find out whether those businesses in Valley Road, e.g. Hockleys etc could do anything to enhance the appearance of the area.

The next meeting was set for 5 March 2008 at 7.00pm at Ann’s house, 29 Connaught Gardens West, Clacton.

The meeting was closed at 9.35pm.

Present: Ann Oxley – Chair CIB, Ron Stephenson, Terry Stephenson, Joanne Rogers, Maureen Goodwin – Secretary CIB, Sandra Sell, Alan Dyer, Fran Dyer, Frank Austing

CLACTON CHAMBER OF TRADE & TOURISM
Clacton in Bloom Meeting
held at Stonar Hotel, Clacton
at 8.05pm on Wednesday 16 January 2008

Ann took the Chair

Ann advised this meeting was to set up a sub-committee to take all necessary actions to prepare and run the Clacton in Bloom event for 2008.
It was agreed that a sub-committee for CIB would be more successful in obtaining funds to sponsor the project, whilst remaining under the umbrella of the Chamber Community Projects.
A Secretary would be required and Maureen Goodwin was elected.
Sue Martin had agreed to deal with finance and was elected as the Treasurer. Ann said she would chair the project.

The following ideas were suggested for consideration:
Maureen said that we needed to lay down the rules for what happened when and specify the route at the start. We should stop at the allotments if possible – there should be more colour (a point made by the judges).
More baskets if possible.
Ron mentioned a display by shopkeepers – this to incorporate the community (again mentioned by the judges).
Did we need a theme ? Not necessarily but we did need a mixture of colours.
We might call it “Colourful Clacton”.
Window boxes ? – speak TCM
Freestanding displays ?
Displays in the beds outside Edinburgh Woollen Mills ?
Terry would liaise with Dream 100 and the Press
People selling produce ? – baskets of flowers (polyanthus) – fruit ? Date ?
Mothering Saturday/Sunday2nd March or 23rd March (Easter) ?
We needed to produce a flyer to advertise the event better.
Should we approach the Schools this year ? YES
Holland Park – Maureen to speak
Shorefields – Sandra to speak
Need to emphasise Special Awards in which we did well in 2007
email all schools
? sponsor some baskets ?
? look after troughs on rails ?
? list of allotment sites so that Alan can contact - ? competition ? Ann to ask

The next meeting was set for 13 February 2008 at 8.15pm at Stonar Hotel to follow Chamber meeting.

The meeting was closed at 9.06pm.
